Family Photo Studio Releases the Well Tools, Eight Stand-Alone Apps That Take the Busywork Out of Digitizing Photos and Home Movies

Built inside a working preservation studio, the Windows, Mac and Lightroom Classic apps crop, straighten, date, caption and finish scans and tape transfers on the user's own computer

SAMMAMISH, Wash., November 2, 2026 -- The Picture Org(anizer), a family-owned media preservation studio with locations in Sammamish, Washington and Depoe Bay, Oregon, today announced the Well Tools, eight stand-alone desktop apps for photographers, scanning services and families who digitize prints, slides, film and videotape. The apps run on Windows and Mac and inside Adobe Lightroom Classic, and are available now at thepictureorg.com/tools with a 21-day free trial.

Digitizing a shoebox of photos is quick. Cropping, straightening, rotating, dating and labeling every scan afterward is what takes the hours. The Well Tools were built to handle those steps for the studio's own client work, and are now sold to anyone doing the same job.

Each app is focused and is sold on its own, so customers need only buy what their collection benefits from:

- Squarewell(TM) Auto Crop & Straighten finds each photo on a scan, straightens it and sets a clean crop. It splits album and scrapbook pages into one image per print, handles 35mm strips, film up to 4x5 and Kodak Disc frames, and turns sideways and upside-down photos upright.
- Pivotwell(TM) Photo Rotation Check is made for born-digital collections: years of digital camera photos where the camera did not always record which way it was held. It reviews thousands of photos, finds the ones still hiding sideways or upside down, and turns them in one step, saying how sure it is about each one. Pivotwell performs the same rotation check Squarewell does, sharing the same software engine.
- Datewell(TM) Date Taken Fixer sets each photo's real date from file and folder names, camera date stamps and lab-printed borders. When a date is unclear it leaves the photo alone and says why.
- Labelwell(TM) Caption Reader reads the writing on album labels and the backs of prints and saves it as a caption that Lightroom, Bridge, Photos and the operating system all show.
- Spoolwell(TM) Video Finishing Toolbox checks tape transfers for damage, merges dated digital video captures into a single file for each date, trims the VCR blue screen and splits tapes at scene changes.
- Matchwell(TM) Photo Deduplicator finds duplicates, including rotated, cropped and restored copies, keeps the best one and merges in the keywords, captions and ratings from the others.
- Sortwell(TM) Batch Sorter reads the divider cards scanned between groups of photos and moves each group into its own named folder.
- Sweepwell(TM) Empty Folder Cleaner finds and removes empty folders, and is free.

The apps complement one another without depending on one another. A studio might run Squarewell on a box of scanned albums, Pivotwell on a family's digital camera folders, then Datewell, Labelwell and Matchwell across both.

Every app runs on the user's own computer, with no account or upload needed, and each app shows its changes for review before anything is saved.

"Every family bringing a photo digitization or organization project asks the same question: When will our project be complete? These tools take on the parts of the project where computers can really speed things up, allowing us to reduce the time to complete a photo project," said John Spear, founder of The Picture Org(anizer). "The same rigor I brought to delivering on the needs of Microsoft partners I bring to our clients' photo and video collections. And I do the same for the software tools we ship. Nothing goes out that I am not 100% happy with."

Pricing and availability

The Well Tools are available now for Windows and macOS, each with a Lightroom Classic plug-in, at thepictureorg.com/tools. Customers who want several can save with The Well Tools Bundle of Squarewell, Spoolwell, Pivotwell, Datewell and Labelwell for $149, compared with $185 bought separately. Sweepwell is free.
